Ultimate Six Frock Coat - cosplay fun

My friend Sal, Who I made an Ultimate Six Frock Coat for (he was in the Photo-shoot I did with three of my Six Coats), has sent me some of his pictures from Gallifrey One.

This one is from the Thursday evening get together.
I knew Sal would be in his Six costume, so I choose to wear my Eleventh Doctor cashmere number to as to not steal his limelight. I’d have plenty of time to west mine.

Here he is with an Eleventh, First and Fourth Doctor cosplayers.
There is always a TARDIS on hand for a good photo opportunity - and Sal didn’t pass the chance up.

These days at conventions there are always a number of girls dressed as TARDISs!

He thoroughly enjoyed wearing his coat around the convention, and was unsurprisingly stopped for photos all the time.

This last shot is from the Monday morning when everyone was heading home. June Hudson had been a great sport over the weekend and was still more than happy to pose for a photo or two.

If you’re wondering why Sal was still wearing his coat, he didn’t want to get it crushed in his suitcase so wore it on the plane home!

Brave man!

Gallifrey One - the tv Movie console

Amongst the many photos I got over the weekend at Gallifrey One, this has to rate amongst my top ten - if not my top five!

This is the original screen-used Paul McGann TV Movie TARDIS console, with assistant Daphne Ashbrook. She loved my coat!

Gallifrey One - Ultimate Six Coat photo ops

Walking around Gallifrey One this year, The Ultimate Six Frock Coat has been gaining a lot of attention as well as causing a buzz amongst fellow cosplayers.

I had some fun sharing the lime light with Sal Giliberto, who  has been craving a Six Frock Coat for years, and this year his dreams came true!

Without doubt my favourite photo of the weekend was taken on the morning after the convention when everyone was on their way home. Legendary caotume designer June Hudson was in the lobby and wanted to get her own photos of Sal’s Six Frock Coat, which gave us the chance to get this GREAT photo.

She loved the coat and was very complimentary about my work - which has been inspiring for me that such a legend of Doctor Who costume could be so nice about what I am doing.

Gallifrey One - Ultimate Six Coat
group photo-shoot

So far I have made three Ultimate Six Frock coat - and luckily all of them are here at Gallifrey One!

This is an opportunity not to be missed, so we are getting them all together for a unique photo-shoot.

We got together with on-site photographer Scott Sebring, who always provides a fantastic service for cosplayers to get amazing professional quality shots of their costumes - for free!
He really is a trooper.

Once we were all in the same room we realised we each were wearing a different variation of Colin Baker’s costume.

Photos by Scott Sebring
I was wearing the season 22 combination, with the turquoise cravat and knitted waistcoat; my friend Sal was in a combination only seen in The Terror Of The Vervoids with the yellow-star cravat and purple waistcoat; and Bob was wearing the red cravat and gingham waistcoat, worn during the rest of the Trial Of A Time Lord season.

We tried a variety of poses, holding our lapels or interlocking our fingers.

But of all the shots we took the pose I liked the most was us standing slightly side-on, with one hand on our lapels.

A huge thank you goes to Scott Sebring for making his professional photo services available to cosplayers at Gallifrey One

The Infinite Quest

Have you ever wondered how I create the patterns I use for my costumes?
Ever been curious as to how I source my fabrics and materials?
How about how I tailor my coats so they look sharp and professional?

Well, if you are attending Gallifrey One in just over a week you can find out!

As part of the cosplay track over the convention, a variety of discussion panels and presentations are taking place covering all aspects and ability levels of costume making are scheduled.
From the basic Cosplay 101 for beginners; through special panels on dressing as The Doctor and his companions; as well as how to build monsters and aliens from the shows 50 year history.

I've sat in on a couple of these panels over the two years I have been going, and last year I unintentionally dominated a panel while talking about The Ultimate Tennant Suit. Luckily my fellow panelists were totally okay with how things went as everyone in the room, them included, were captivated by my talk.

So this year I have been given a dedicated solo panel to discuss taking costume making to the next level.

My plans are to talk extensively about the Ultimate Six Frock Coat, the Tom Baker Frock Coat I made last year, as well as a few surprises along the way.
I will show the earliest cosplay project I ever made (which I still have) and tell of the path that has lead me to where I am now.
I shall explain the ethos of the work I do and the vintage sources I use for the patterns that make the coats I am known for.

I do hope that if you are at Gallifrey One this year you will come along and hear what I have to say and see close up the costumes I shall have with me to illustrate my talk.

Oh, and there will be free Jammie Dodgers......
